Ward 5 is Beyond the Ordinary

Get to know Ward 5 as you peruse these photos of the amazing hamlets that come together to create our Ward 5 community.

Udora

A quaint little hamlet that is home to the iconic Udora General Store and the Udora Leaskdale Lions Club. The store is one of the oldest operating General Stores in Canada. The public park in Udora has a baseball diamond, terrific amenities in a children's playground, a community hall and a gazebo erected by the Lions Club. Udora is also home to an Estonian Camp called Joekaaru.

Pefferlaw

Pefferlaw prides itself as a vibrant railway community that is supported by one of the most dynamic service clubs in the area--The Pefferlaw District Lions Club. The community and the club have had a long and distinguished relationship and the residents of Pefferlaw take great pride in helping their club celebrate its 70th Anniversary in 2026. And we cannot overstate the contribution of the Pefferlaw Lioness to the well-being of this community.

The village has at its core the Pefferlaw Lions Community Centre which boasts a modern hall, a pump track and skate park, a covered ice surface in the winter and a multi-use sports pad in summer. It also has a modern children's playground, a baseball diamond, soccer pitch and trail system.

The village owes its development to the history of the dam and the Pefferlaw River, both of which are located at the heart of the downtown area. There is a modern fire hall, restaurants, garage, retail stores, medical, physiotherapy and dental offices, drugstore, EMS station, LCBO, industrial operations and a wildlife rehabilitation centre known as Shades of Hope.

Pefferlaw is surrounded by significant natural features which include three York Region Forestry tracts, the Pefferlaw River and one of the longest Lake Simcoe shorelines in Georgina. Two marinas, a private resort and one of the best public beaches in Georgina all help make Pefferlaw an enviable place to live.

Virginia

The small hamlet of Virginia is located along Highway 48 between Pefferlaw and Sutton. Its residents enjoy beautiful lake vistas from a First Nations lakeside restaurant or capturing scenic portraits of Georgina Island from a Town dock.

Virginia is also home to the heritage Virginia Catholic Church and cemetery, the Virginia United Church, restaurants, a garage and a service centre.

The village is experiencing a revival of economic activity from the Chippewas of Georgina Island who have recently opened a commercial centre offering a gas bar, First Nations shopping centre and restaurant.

Just north of Virginia in Ward 5 is Sibbald's Point Provincial Park, a popular camping venue located on the south shore of Lake Simcoe.

Port Bolster

Once a thriving port for shipping lumber to export markets from the shores of Lake Simcoe, Port Bolster today is a quiet hamlet that takes advantage of its beaches and strategic location to some of the best sport fishing on Lake Simcoe.

The hub of this enviable tight-knit community is the Port Bolster Community Hall, a vibrant centre supported by a group of dedicated volunteers who regularly host popular events.

There is a marina and two public beaches in Port Bolster, one along Clovelly Cove and the other on Irving Drive.  Both offer local area residents a quiet area to relax and breathe in the bounty of nature.
